Here and here, have some new Eclipse stills, now featuring hot Bella on Edward action.

Also, Twilight in lolcats and New Moon in lolcats. I think Twilight humor might be my favorite kind.

I just wrote an essay in Japanese about a movie I didn't actually watch. What did I write about? Mostly how cute the main actor was. *thumbs up*

I have a real post, with few to no Twilight links or drunken debauchery coming up soon, I promise.

Vampyre

'Sup kids.

So I just finished the Vampire Diaries books. Omg? So good. I tried reading them once before, towards the end of high school, but I think I was in too realistic a phase to accept the fact that they fall in lurrrrrrrve almost immediately upon meeting. This always kind of bothers me (except in the Night World series, because there is a magical excuse for love at first sight), but once I got over that I really, really enjoyed it. Her writing is really engaging, though admittedly written for a young adult audience. I love love her characters, and her plots, and just everything. Also, wow, I can totally see where my writing style came from. Her books were my favorite things evarrr during my formative years, so my writing is her writing plus a little Francesca Lia Block. Also, her vampire mythologies are what I take as "normal", even though they're totally romance novel vampires, not horror vampires. HOWEVER! These books were genuinely creepy. Especially the last two.

GUYS I JUST HNNNNNNN I LOVE THESE BOOKS SO MUCH AND I'M ALL STUCK IN LJ SMITH VAMPIRES AND WITCHES WORLD. It's even making me want to watch the show which, so far? Not so great. Although, more sex and Ian Somerhalder as Damon. In my mind, a gothed out Chace Crawford is Damon, but they look a lot like each other, so I'm cool. Although Elena is supposed to be blonde, not brunette, and Bonnie is supposed to be a pixie-like redhead druid descendent, not an African-American Salem witch descendent. NOT THAT I CARE ABOUT CHANGES, I hate being one of those people, I'm going to enjoy the show for what it is, which is a sexy vampire show with some hot dudes.

Although, speaking of Elena turning into a brunette...the show is both trying to be and trying to move away from Twilight. The book is shockingly like Twilight for the first like 2/3 or so, before it deviates some. Of course, it was published in 1991 whereas Twilight was published in 2005 soo...yeah. Stephanie Meyer claims she's never read vampire books, but I dunno. Anyway, the show is definitely trying to LOOK like Twilight, with the way the characters themselves are styled and such, but it's changed the plot around a lot, so I'm thinking they realize the intense similarities and don't want everyone calling it a rip off.

ANYWAYS, YOU GUYS SHOULD BUY EVERY BOOK LJ SMITH HAS EVER WRITTEN. YOU CAN FIND THEM HERE. The Night World series is her best, imo, but Vampire Diaries and Dark Visions are both really good, too. They're all amazing, but those are my favorites. So if you like young adult vampire romance that still has come creepiness? READ LJ SMITH!

Okay, I'm done now.

+ I am really excited for Fame. I loved the cheestastic 80s original, and I'm sure I'm going to love the new cheestastic version.

+ I realized today all of my favorite Disney heroines growing up were the "sexy" ones: Jasmine, Esmeralda, and Megara. I liked the more princess-y girls, but I wanted to BE the sexy chick. Which is strange, given who I am now, I think. Who were your favorite Disney heroines?

+ Did anyone else think the new New Moon trailer was just a non stop stream of shirtless men? Not that I'm complaining, but whoa.

+ Bought the new Green Day album today. I know it's totally not hip to love them anymore, but Billie Joe still makes my 14 year old punk rock girl heart flutter.

+ Speaking of my 14 year old self, I've been thinking a lot about myself in junior high and high school lately. The room I'm moving back into was my room from babyhood until senior year of high school, plus listening to Green Day is making me flashback. Not in a nostalgic way...just a flashback, contemplative sort of way. I wonder what myself at 12, 15, 17 would think of me now. At 12 I was a huuuuuuge f-ing geek, who acted "normal" during the week, but dressed like a hot topic gawth and watched non stop anime on the weekends. When I was 15 I was punk rock girl with rainbow hair and a hard on for riot grrrl and any female fronted punk/rock bands. At 17 I was a burgeoning hipster kid who listened to exclusively indie music and "cared" about politics. I'm really glad I've "found" myself, and incorporated bits and pieces of all of those personas into who I am now, but it's interesting to look back on my various incarnations. Who were you in the past, flist?

Now I'm off to watch Glee and/or Vampire Diaries. Have a lovely night.

Look what I found...omg.
Too many pictures of my face )

All of my outfit shots have been coming out like crap lately.

Tomorrow, I have to do a self introduction in Japanese.

自己紹介(This part is in Japanese) )

Sorry, needed to get that off my chest. So! I'm thinking of buying another wig much like the loooong brown one I was wearing in my previous pictures. However! I can't decide what color. Go look at the color choices and help me pick one or two! I'm thinking probably two wigs in "party" colors, or a party color and some kind of blonde-ish, or maybe one party color and the "heat resistant" kind in a nice brown, so I can play with it. What do y'all think?
Why are there so many different editions of the Twilight DVD? Why do they all have different special features? I WANT THEM ALL, ARGH. Actually, just the borders, amazon, and target ones. The hot topic version just comes with a film cell. Boooooo.

My paper is going to be way too long. I have about 3 pages written out of 8-10, and I'm only like maaaaayyybe done with 15%. There's just so much to say, and I'm trying to include original theory, this really amazing book on modern vampire literature, fan reactions, interviews with Catherine Hardwicke, and interviews with RPattz, in addition to my analysis of Twilight as a text all on its own. So it's kind of a lot. And it takes a lot out of me to write. It's like giving birth, or something. And I'm basically useless after about midnight and don't get off work until 8 and urrrrrg. I think this may be my shittiest finals week of all time ever.

In other news, I've been listening to Hannah Montana and it's keeping me upbeat! I totally want to see the movie...lol. I'm so lame.
I love the internet. I love fandom. But you know what I love almost as much as the internet and fandom? Getting to talk about BOTH of those things in a LEGITIMATE way for a CLASS. I mean, I've written papers on Buffy, done a presentation on the history of Lolita, but on Tuesday I got to talk about SLASH. :DD

So, this weeks topic in "Images, Power, and Politics: Methods in Visual and Textual Analysis" was Viewers Make Meaning, and one other girl and I got tapped to do a presentation. It wasn't supposed to be a big deal, just define the terms from our chapter, think up some discussion questions, maybe 30 minutes of dialogue, etc. Between the two of us, we took up and hour and 30 minutes. It was kind of amazing. One of our terms was Textual Poaching and my first thought was, omg, fan fiction! So I talk to my professor, and she's like really excited because she knows what fan fiction is AND she watches Heroes, which is the show I decide to talk about. I show a clip from season two and...this. (note: that song is a gift to slash fans, srsly. There were PAGES and PAGES of slash vids for that song. My all time favorite is from Haruhi, though)

It went over well. The people in my class were kind of...incredulous? They didn't know fandom existed, basically, so I schooled them on fandom and slash fic and all that jazz. My professor wanted to know how popular Sylar/Mohinder was within the fandom and I was like, "Well, uh, there's Paire, Petrellicest..." and the class was like "BZUH? Petrellicest??" so I had to show a video of that, too, and then spend a good long time explaining how the world of fandom is often a world for people to...air their kinks? Like how [livejournal.com profile] mylar_fic (and a lots of other comms...) have tags for non-con (rape, basically) and necrophilia. The second is, um, extreme to say the least, but torture and rape and all that good hot kind of messed up stuff is fairly common. I kept prefacing what I said with "I don't want to scare you away from the internet, but..." Although, I've come to the realization that being a part of fandom from a young age is part of what has given me my open mind about sexuality. I mean, I was reading Taito porn at the tender age of, like, 12. It's just so much a part of internet culture, that it's almost hard not to be accepting of many different forms or sexuality.

Anyway...

Twilight Unicorn Orgasms. Lol, I don't know why its so huge.

Posters for the new Dragonball movie

JESSE McCARTNEY AS ZUUKO????. WT MOTHER FUCKING F! But Jackson Rathbone as Sokka? Mmmm.

Why the Twilight sequel is going to suck.
1. They fired Catherine Hardwicke.
2. They don't have a director and they want to start Monday.
3. They want it out in less than a year.
4. The director they've asked did AMERICAN PIE.
5. They're going to try to shoehorn Edward in more.
6. They want to fire Jacob Lautner (although this is...understandable. He's not...a 6'5" werewolf).

So much fail today. So. Much. Fail.

But here is some less fail: very interesting review of Twilight. Kind of how I feel about the movie.

Sorry I am so all Twilight, all the time. It's fascinating me as a a cultural text right now. At least it's not all OMG EDWARD RPATTZ GIVE ME YOUR BABIEZZZZ, right?

I really want a corset. Like, I don't want to waist train or anything, but it would be fun to have one to wear with Lolita. And they're so pretty...

I wasn't that excited about AP's chandelier series...but in black and blue? Verrry pretty. Not pretty enough to buy, I don't think, but pretty enough to share. Especially in black.

I saw Twilight again today. Don't even get me started on how pissed I am they fired Catherine Hardwicke. Omfg. Also, I still love RPattz for his take on Twilight. If the girls are reading as much into as he is, then by all means, it is a wonderful book with much less questionable morals than it appears on the surface. I just think he's looking into much deeper than anyone else. Which, you know, good for him.

It is really cold.

That is all.

ugh

My jetlag is ridiculous, you guys. I went to bed at about 8 PM. It's 5:30 AM and I have been awake for half an hour with no signs of going back to sleep. Yesterday, I went to bed at 6 PM and woke up at midnight(!) and went back to sleep at about 2, then woke up again at 7. It's like my body doesn't need a full 8 hours of sleep all together anymore, it just needs them here and there. THERE IS NOTHING TO DO AT 5 AM Y'ALL, NOTHING.

So, I read Midnight Sun over the past couple of days. It was...interesting. It made Robert Pattinson's portrayal of Edward make more sense (he read it and based Edward more off of that than Twilight). It's good to know that Edward isn't as OMGSOOOOPERFECT!!!1!1 as Bella thinks he is in the first book, but he's also a bit....um, well, I'll let RPattz himself sum up what I'm starting to think Edward is like (also, this is why I love RPattz so much, he actually says stuff like this out loud in official interviews):

"When you read the book," says Pattinson, looking appropriately pallid and interesting even without makeup, "it's like, 'Edward Cullen was so beautiful I creamed myself.' I mean, every line is like that. He's the most ridiculous person who's so amazing at everything. I think a lot of actors tried to play that aspect. I just couldn't do that. And the more I read the script, the more I hated this guy, so that's how I played him, as a manic-depressive who hates himself. Plus, he's a 108-year-old virgin so he's obviously got some issues there."

I love the books, and I loooove Edward, but the more I think about them the more I realize how horrible in so many different ways there are )

Sorry, that was an intense ramble. I love the books, I promise. I love vampires and always have. I just wish SMeyer would have made them more like vampires and less like normal people so that the 13 yeard olds don't get the wrong idea, I guess. I dunno.

It's 6 AM, there's nothing to do. Thus, I write long ridiculous entries about Twilight.

Oh, also: Growing Up Cullen

wow

Lol.

TWILIGHT

TWILIGHT TRAILER

omgggggggg why must I be on an airplane during the midnight showing of this. It's going to be amaaaaaaziiiiiiiiingggggg. T_T

In other news I am cranky for not particular reason. I think I need chocolate. And to buy something. Which I, hopefully, will do tomorrow.
Check out my shoes, y'all )

I got a ridiculous number of comments today. Two ladies asked if they were Swedish shoes (cuz of the "architecture"?), but another lady was like "You look like you belong in Japan." Rock on, random librarian lady, rock on. XD

OH! And GO RESERVE A COPY OF BREAKING DAWN AT WALDENBOOKS!!!!!! They said if enough people reserver, they'll have a midnight party and I don't want to have to drive all the way to SLO or SB if I don't have to. If you haven't read Twilight yet, READ IT and then GO RESERVE BREAKING DAWN. Here is an review/analysis of why it is "good" and fun. Go. Now.
So I'm sitting on a bench staring at the ocean because my monarch sanctuary lacks monarchs, listening to music that's more melancholy than I actually am, watching tourists in clothes for much warmer weather than it is, trying to get japanese women out of my head. And I feel really good.

To get away from my attempt at lovely language, I just owned my japanese history test. If I never have to write about the good wife, wise mother ideology (for reference, think cult of domesticity) again, it will be too soon, but at least I rocked it, and with almost no preparation, too. Especially compared to James who had a two page outline in 10pt font. Mine was not even a paragraph. I just rock and roll all night long at japanese women's history. Although, my hand hurts now.

Tomorrow I have my japanese chapter test and then midterm season is over. Break until finals, basically. I can finish New Moon, get through eclipse, and then suffer until the next one comes out this summer. I'm glad Nicole (and now Pollymae!) are reading it at the same time because having someone to obsess with is the greatest gift of all. My next excitement is the Indiana Jones midnight opening, but that whole weekend is like one huge orgy of excitement, Dr. Jones is just the foreplay. Indiana Jones, Fanimecon, my first real Lolita meet-up, and thursday through monday with Joel. <333

My rocking horse shoes came today! They are also ridiculously exciting. I will posts pictures of me in them, cuz they're hard to visualize, but you shall see.

Also, I really, really love the cure. I just thought y'all should know.
(Pictures from the Straberry Festival)

I am avoiding doing homework/studying. Bad news. Baaaaaad news.

ALSO! Edward Cullen.

pleasant

Apr. 28th, 2008 10:09 pm
I've had a very pleasant evening to myself. It's Courtney's birthday, so we went out to dinner, but it was rather short because she and the other 21 year olds (minus myself and Elena) were off to bar-hop, so I was home by like 7:30 and I've been taking the time to myself, since I was productive and got everything I needed to done as soon as I got home from school.

I've cleaned, grocery shopped, painted my nails, showered, made flashcards, internetted, and now I'm going to read Twilight. Which is pretty good, by the way. Written for high school-ish aged people, but if you can get past that it's interesting. Although, the vampire has yet to literally sparkle, as I hear he does, so we'll see what happens. Right now he's just inhumanly beautiful and too interested in the main girl, so we'll see where it goes.

Oh! And the Cloverfield theme song "Roar!" is finally available on itunes! It's pretty amazing.
